They ran it through my insurance as testicular pain rather than dysphoria so approval was a breeze. No letters or special appointments..." followed by "okay, just about 2 weeks out and it seems to be healing just fine. the really annoying thing is he wanted to do the two higher incisions on either side and i requested the single midline incision. i get home and aware enough after the anesthesia wore off a bit to look and i’ve got the inch and a half midline incision, but also a higher second one cm incision with a dab of surgical glue on it to close it. what the hell? there’s no mention of a second incision or complications in the surgical report. i called the nurse today and she talks to the surgeon who says there was only one incision. so what’s the second goddamn hole? it’s going to leave a bigger than pea-sized scar that the plastic surgeon will have to work around when i eventually have my vaginoplasty. as i see it, the most likely explanation is that he started with the two incision method and after inserting the scalpel went, “oops!”, withdrew and moved to the midline incision. the other possibility is that he dropped the scalpel on my junk. so annoying that he essentially lied about the mistake. i understand the motivation, but so unprofessional. i would look for other options."

No joke my outer lips are nearly 3 inches deep before you get to what barely passes as inner labia. I had infections which he ignored for 9 months before I finally fired him from my care team. I brought up my infection in 7 different appointments with him. I went to obgyn 2 weeks later. By then the infection was so bad that when I expressed that I had an infection, the obgyn doctor told me she didn’t need me to tell her that, as she could smell it across the room... The fuck up with the urethra is so bad, that as a woman with a vagina, I pee on the floor while sitting on the toilet. I have to pee folded over with my belly touching the toilet seat to avoid peeing on the floor."

- Update: SRS for Flying_Cat by Flying_Cat in 2018 - "My primary surgeon was Valerie Lemaine at the Mayo Clinic, my secondary surgeon was Jorys Martinez-Jorges. My primary surgeon has since left the Mayo clinic and I don't think she's doing GRS at this point in time... I cannot recommend Mayo Clinic in any way shape or form. I'm not so pissed that they fucked up on me, I'm livid they fucked up on every single patient I have met who had surgery +/- a year of me and in many of the exact same ways. Industry standard is ~80% fine after 1 surgery, From what I can tell, Mayo's was zero. They had 0 business providing GRS at the time... My complications fall into the following category: 1) Excessive erectile tisse left behind - this appeared near universal among the Mayo alumni I've known, myself included. 2) Urinary issues - can find at least one other person in this camp. Whenever I would pee, it would go to the right. 3) aesthetic - didn't look remotely cis 4) lingering phantom pain - felt like a testicle getting squeezed - that referred pain in the abdomen 5) major scarring - noticible scars. Depth was meh, 4.5". The revision is expected to take 4 weeks to heal. If Mayo's fuck ups required one weeks worth of downtime, okay but 4 weeks to fix all of the issues they left behind is completely unacceptable. I must give a hard pass on Mayo. There were also two nurses who either asked questions I feel were inappropriate or in one case, one nurse referred to me as "sir". She had just checked my chart so she knew why I was there."

You must completely clear the area with electrolysis beforehand or risk dealing with hair afterwards. Mayo leaves too much erectile tissue in. I and every review I have ever read of Mayo vaginoplasty have that complication. This is a functional and aesthetic (deformation) issue. It makes dilation difficult. It makes arousal uncomfortable and dysphoric. Overall, aesthetics are poor."

- My experience with a vaginoplasty. by random4sad4person in 2023 - "My expectations coming into the operating room were high, but sadly I was let down by my overall experience... in the recovery room, i was told i sustained a bowel injury during surgery, reducing my overall vaginal depth to about 9cm, much less than i was hoping for sadly. However with my treatment, im not sure I want and/or look forward to a revision of any kind... As someone who's suffered with depression, i have and currently take antidepressants, however my doctors had overlooked this, treating me with antibiotics that also contained serotonin. This resulted in serotonin syndrome, and i had a few days of very shaky and painful recovery while doctors worked to prescribe me medication to counteract this."
