I’m having my surgery with Dr.Rumer in less than a month. I saw so many negative reviews literally this morning. Is there any recommendations out there for a new doctor? I’m truly terrified about the things I saw about Rumer.

Yes go to Douglass and Hamidian at Temple U or McGinn in New Hope. I'm assuming ur looking near philly. There is also Dr Rose at Main Line Health but I didn't get good vibes from my consult with her. Do NOT go to Rumer. She screwed up too many surgeries

Edit: my surgery is with Douglass and Hamidian in the fall. Message me if u want to chat

Well I’m okay going anywhere in the US but I currently live in Tx. Thank you for the recommendations :)

See the wiki of this sub for a list of surgeons by state. Whatever u do stay away from Rumer. It's not worth it.

I'd avoid Schecter in Chicago, too.

If I was already in TX and could go anywhere, I would look into California. Find like three of the best surgeons and go for the consults. Pick the best of three. Someone else mentioned the wiki, definitely check that out as there are some really good ones I found up in the New England area. You may find someone perfect for you right in TX! Good luck honey

Edit: oh yeah, stay away from rumer. I have read nothing but really bad stuff about them.

I used Dr Daniel Freet and are among friends with 8 ladies who have had their surgery with him. An incredible surgeon with a detail to authentic anatomy. His attention to detail is off the charts. As with all surgeons, following post op instructions and hygiene are the two most common issues after surgery.

In Texas? I had my GCS with Dr. Hanna. I'm thrilled with the care and my results so far.

Don’t. You’ll regret it. Just don’t. It’s not worth the risk.

It's better to wait until a different doctor has availability than to go to Rumer. You are preparing for a new set of genitalia. You only have one chance to get this right. Go to the best doctor you can. I can assure you that Rumer is NOT that doctor.

I don’t know her, but I trust reputation and trust that “slow is fast”. You want surgery that makes your life better not makes you feel more problem and attention to there. With this reputation, I will find someone else. Go with reputation l

OP if you don't mind me asking. How did you hear about Rumer to get a consult with her? Were trying to figure out how she is roping in out of state patients.

I looked up doctors that take out of state Medicaid and she was the first one that popped up

she's desperate for patients (money) at this point, which is why she'll accept medicaid from any state. locals know to avoid her.

I’ve been on this sub for a while now and can tell you RUMER is to AVOID apparently, I’m in the UK so not like I would choose her anyway. But run.

You are right to feel truly terrified. This "doctor" sucks so much she's even infamous in the news https://jezebel.com/when-surgeons-fail-their-trans-patients-1844774990

Look here, read carefully.

Lots of reviews and photos.

Use a browser, not a reddit app, or you may not see much. Reddit is buggy.

This is in the wiki, but worth a quick look

even Dr. Marci Bowers, President of WPATH, said that Rumer "...is a huge problem. i have lobbied those with potential to address this through pennsylvania medical board but, as WPATH president, not in my jurisdiction. buyer beware"

https://www.instagram.com/p/CmN8WFQuqh6/?hl=en maybe put this in your wiki.

Dr. Jess Ting also shared some negative insight on Rumer here: https://i.redd.it/rjxwmeoui5l91.jpg

it's pretty fucking bad when well-known surgeons are all talking shit about Rumer!

Dr Marci Bowers reply is slightly confusing to me. Dr Kathy Rumer is a member of WPATH, and Bowers is President. How is that "not in my jurisdiction"

https://www.wpath.org/MembershipInfo It seems like a medical provider can simply join for $225. That's a good question for Bowers to answer though. Every group has a few bad apples.

I had surgery with her back in 2018, she made my dysphoria worse. 11/10 wouldnt recommend. Dr. McGinn and Dr. Ting are pretty competent

Dr. Katherine Rose in Bryn Mawr.

Edit, Although I will say my surgery was with Rumer and my results were excellent. I do admit I’m in a vast minority though.

Dr. Rose did my BA and I couldn’t be happier.

Write off any time or deposit you've put out so far and just move on. You only have one body. Don't risk irreversibly damaging it with someone like Rumer just because you already scheduled surgery. Even if changing surgeons sets you back time-wise, it's way worth it.

Dr Rachael Blubond. I literally made a NO GO list for surgeons and Rumer is the first name on it. The amount of horror stories I’ve heard is crazy. I strongly advise you don’t do it

I’m scheduled with Dr. Ramineni and I haven’t seen any bad news about him on here so far. Plus he’ll get you in super fast if you’ve already got your letters and stuff. Maybe a 1-3 month turn around before you’re scheduled for surgery.

He’s had a few patients with very serious complications that he failed to respond to who had to seek emergency care elsewhere. One ended up needing a colostomy. She had every sign of a fistula, and he kept telling her the blood and feces leaking from her vagina was normal. After everyone on the forum begged her to go to the emergency room, she ended up being treated elsewhere at multiple different hospitals. Another person I’m aware of developed a dangerous infection that again, he told her to ignore. Again, she got a second opinion and ended up needing emergency care elsewhere. There seems to be a pattern of serious complications that have been missed and concerns being ignored.

I went to Ting, yes the staff could be better. The communication can be less then detailed. In all though the out come was good. My recovery went well, with minimal pain and I required very little assistance for my recovery at home.
