Hey friends! If you’re in the Los Angeles/Orange County area (close to Disney/Knotts), Metamorphosis Medical Center is now offering multi-hour, large-volume/marathon electrolysis hair removal with sedation or local anesthetic. Dr. Vierregar is the on-site physician, and she specializes in gender affirming care (they offer a few other services). As an electrologist I’ve had clients attempt more than an hour for surgery prep or for other sensitive areas and it’s really really difficult. This is a definitely a game-changer. As I’ll be working with her to provide all electrolysis modalities, I can answer any electrolysis-related questions you may have. Also, PM me if you're in the area and open to documenting your electrolysis journey publicly.

Might need to plan a Disney trip and loop this in just because of that. 😊

Interesting! I’d always like more info. I’m post op but didn’t get enough before surgery and am still trying to clean up some bikini/Brazilian areas. I live near Seattle and weirdly there just doesn’t seem to be anybody offering this sort of service on the west coast.

Yes the issue is the local anesthetic requires physician or NP oversight, so very few electrologists are able to find providers to work with. I believe there are two or three other clinics in this region but certainly not enough to support the need.

Yes. The last time I had to travel to Chicago which is just too far and impractical.

Well maybe we'll cross paths in Buena Park! Would you happen to remember what method of electrolysis was used in Chicago? Was it thermolysis?

It was thermolysis. They did a great job and I loved the numbing and sedation, only I hate to fly and had to travel via train. Not great from the west coast! It absolutely beat going an hour a week or something.

So glad this worked out for you. Successful outcomes are so much more likely when patients can do long appointments!

Please let me know when this is available and what the cost will be and if there’s been any success working with insurance. Even if I can’t get the electrolysis covered, I might be able to submit the doctor fees. I’m now in a small town and don’t even have local electrolysis so I have to travel hours to have even touch ups done for anything!

Yes, I believe insurance can cover some if not all of the costs.

160/hr for face and body and 220/private areas. Local anesthetic is extra. I'm almost certain they take insurance but you can message them to confirm.

Hey I'm a dentist. I was thinking of giving myself freezing before my electrolysis but I was worried about the vasoconstriction possible making treatment less effective. A lidocaine infiltration would be okay?

Yes, it's totally fine- I would advise most people not to DIY the injection but I'm sure you're a pro

You can use adrenaline in the lidocaine no problem, and buffer it with sodium bicarbonate, and dilute it so you can cover more area.

This is an incredible resource. I can't actually administer lidocaine but I'll definitely read through this later. Thanks!

Hi u/BadBettyElectrolysis - I just sent you a PM! I'm in SoCal (Inland Empire) and I'm having an awful time with my electrolysis. I also sent a message via the "contact us" on the Metamorphisis site, and may call tomorrow. I have got to find a new path forward because at this rate I won't get surgery for years! Doing long sessions under effective local anesthesia (possibly + sedation) sounds like an absolute dream that could get me cleared much faster, even if I can't get insurance coverage for it.

Would this speed the process up for clearing areas for SRS?

Yes, but only because we are able to do more in one sitting. It will not dramatically reduce your total treatment time. If you have X amount of hairs that require epilating, that number wont change whether you do 6 hours in a day or one hour a week. But it allows the practitioner to work more efficiently and that could speed up treatment time

I read through the policy and it’s totally reasonable. I used to be in some cosmetic surgery groups on Facebook that badly need moderation lol. Thanks for the “grace” on this post
