Did you have to wear a corset or anything post op for a long period?
Yea, recovery is wearing a corset for 2 months while the ribs heal in the new position. It was pretty uncomfortable to sit on the couch, sleep, eat, go to a movie. No pain it just feels like it takes forever for the time to pass
You literally got your ribs rearranged and said "nah, i can handle more pain, let's do a gigantic chest tattoo!"
You are fuckin badass lol
Thanks hehe. I thought they were both pretty easy 😅 we'll see how FFS goes in August, that'll be the real challenge!
mine is in aug as well, having it done by two surgeons. FFS and nose job.
getting mine done at duke Univ. How about you?
I got the Fisher Stepien special from Duke, ur in good hands
Hi, I know this is an old thread but I have an appointment with Stepien (for BA) tomorrow and I can't find much on him. If you're comfortable sharing, I'd love to hear your experiences.
I also got the the Fisher-Stepien special, it's good stuff. Strong recommend.
OMG! another trans person in NC? We need to become besties!
Hi, No idea if you'll read this but I'd love to hear your experience with Stepien if you don't mind sharing.
I'm going to facial team in Spain. I got a discount for taking a short notice spot from someone's cancellation. It's still surreal that it actually worked out 🤩
Spain doctors are non aggressive they choose whom to put on their site.. jfyi
I've done ffs 3 times and don't like my results spain was in there
OMG congratz
For me it was waaaaaaaaaay more manageable than I expected.
Did you have any lipo, or is this just ribs?
Just the rib procedure. I've gotten smaller during the recovery period because I couldn't work out for the last 2 months. Worst part of the whole thing lol
Looks good though.
Thanks! What I really want is wider hips, but I'm pretty on the fence about hip implants. They seem to have a much higher chance of issues compared to something like breast implants. And no matter how hard I try I can't put on weight for any kind of fat transfer. So this procedure felt like a safe, permanent option to get my hips a little more visible instead of hip implants
Re: putting on weight - track your food and eat at a surplus. You sound like a pretty engaged person as far as fitness goes so perhaps you already do that, but unless you have another medical issue, physics will win :)
Looking great by the way!
I hate my rib cage cuz it's wider than my pelvis, but this gives me hope
Didn’t know this was an option! Very cool.
It looks great. May I ask, I'm really overwhelmed with looking into surgeries. How do you even start looking into something like this? I know I was FFS/trachael shave, a rib related surgery like this, and clavicle shortening but I am so lost. What steps do you take when looking into surgeons?
I have a spreadsheet to organize all the info about surgeries. I just Google the procedure I want and start looking at every single result for a page or two. I'll note the location, Google reviews of the practice, the doctor's reviews on realself (this one is big for me), how many before/after pics they have (with notes if I think they're actually good or include trans patients) the price for a consultation, etc Then I use the "contact us" section on every site and say "hello, I am a trans gal looking to have X surgery". When they respond one of the first things I ask is how long will it take to get a consult and how long to actually get in for surgery after that. Because sometimes the consultation is 6 months out and surgery will be a year later. I personally end the conversation there with those.
Hi, thanks so much for this post! Can you share the spread sheet in some way? Even a simple copy-paste would be so helpful. Thanks!
Either find them online and send a message or call them. Each practice is going to be a little different, but they will walk you through whatever needs to be done. Many of them will start with a consultation. Some consultations are free, some may cost a few hundred bucks. The consultation fees normally go toward the final surgery. After the consultation you should get some price quotes from them about the procedure you are interested in. They will most likely ask for photos for things like FFS. They will also need letters of medical necessity. Don't let the letter stuff scare you though. They were mostly a formality. My hormone doctor sent the first letter I needed almost instantly. The second letter required came from a therapist after two sessions. A therapist from an LGBTQ center is the best bet. They won't question your identity, they will just make sure you are mentally sound and ask about your support system.
Wow you look amazing!! And I love your tattoos! :)
Thanks 😄 still working on my collection
I also went to Austin Plastic for this procedure (Dr. Weinfeld in my case) and can agree with the OP that it’s a low pain and easy recovery procedure. There is no reason for people to remove ribs anymore and that is a great thing.
Did your waist size decrease significantl?
Hey, how much size did you loose on your ribcage.
about 2-3 in in diameter… which is insane, its all from the back too aka the S curve transition between the butt and back, showing it from the front unfortunately isnt the real change, its about that curve, I think its been sold incorrectly in some ways
Wow that's a lot, I'm confused what you mean by it's visible from the back not the front? Your waist doesn't look smaller from the front?
it does but not as dramatic as the reduction of the lower back, it curves in more like a cis girl would have, it completely changed how comfortable I was in clothing and even how I walk around, my body felt more female because of it
I'm so happy you got the result you wanted! I have a pretty wide ribcage and very rectangular shape that really bothers me because I feel like it clocks me i only just learnt about this surgery I definitely want it!
Wow! The difference it makes it’s unreal. Sign me up!
Omg, added to my todo list
Outstanding! Having my consult 7/9 w/ Franco 🥳 I hope they can do me bc I already had the front of 11/12 removed
Congrats! I hope it works out :)
is your pic resting or are you doing any sucking in? i have a little bit of the )( going if i suck in but at rest i look more like your before pic. im a little fluffly at the moment from 2 months off the gym for my ffs and adding prog. so i nee to work on that as well. considering either doing what you did + maybe a 2nd BBL or dr eppley's newer torso narrowing thing
It looks so good! Are you able to exercise like normal now that you’ve recovered? Or are certain things off limits now? I’m considering this + fat transfer
After the 2 month mark I am cleared to return to all exercise! Weightlifting and all :)
Do you feel any different at the gym? Has it changed your strength or anything like that?

It looks so good. How was the scarring and where was the incision made if you don’t mind sharing?
Can be seen here :)
did you also have clavicle reduction? your shoulders look narrower too, though maybe its the angle. regardless, the result looks nice
Amazing, Sign me up 😊
Didn't know this was an option. Speaking skeletal from the neck down, my ribs are my biggest source of dysphoria.
How did ur shoulders get narrower?! LUCKY
Do you feel like it changes the way you breathe at all? I've been interested in getting the same thing done but from what I read it reduces your lung capacity and then I'm afraid I won't be able to do athletic stuff or sing as well.
I haven't noticed anything like that. I was worried about that too but after recovery it seems fine! Getting deep breaths while wearing the corset for 2 months is a challenge. They gave me an apparatus so I can check my breath capacity during recovery because I think if you don't make sure to do it it could become an issue
Did they measure your breath capacity before surgery too?
Wow, it looks great. Thanks for posting, sweetie! I never knew of this procedure and being a "big-boned girl", this is something that will most definitely help with future needs to feminize my body!
What did they do with your ribs? I am aware of removing the lower rib but not rearranging. Please tell me more, because you look great.
They cut about half way through your floating ribs to make them more pliable. Then you wear a corset while the fracture heals hoping that they heal in the new, smaller position
Thank you!
Very cool indeed!! Congratulations on your results. Definitely improved your overall look! Very nice and thanks for sharing with before, after and incision pictures! xo
I always wonder if I could do something like this because my skeleton is weird. I started hormones before my skeleton fused, so I have both a wider, longer ribcage and a wider, taller pelvis. The combined effect of this is that my lowest rib actually sits inside of my pelvis. By fashion standards, I legitimately don't have a waist.
Wow, what a difference 😳
As I am also blessed with a wider rib cage, I have looked into this kind of surgery to see if anything could be done.
I have seen you can remove or alter the bones at the bottom of the rib cage - is that what you have done or is like the entire rib cage (bones from bottom to top) altered?
I feel like the the mid-upper part of the rib cage is what bothers me the most 😥
This is just the floating ribs, the bottom pair. I think on some people 2 pair can be floating. The only procedure I know for the top of the body like that is a clavicle reduction. I only know 1 doctor who does is and the recovery is rough from what I understand
Holy shit, what a change, my body looking like the left makes me so self conscious, it's made me avoid a lot of cute tops, I hate seeing male wrestlers wear crop tops and be like "oof that looks a little too close to what I see when I wear one" 😂 I'm way too scared of rib surgery myself - I'd like to see more results over the years and if it's truly safe without long term complications. Looks fantastic though
$8,000!! That's only $500 more than what I'm looking at for hair transplants. It's a lot but like still in the range of something to save up for (for me). I might get this done.
It's sort of advertised as being about $6000. Which is why I found it affordable. After anesthesia and other surgery fees the real total was $7800. I financed it with CareCredit for 0% over a year so it worked out
That's a dramatic change. Looks great
So did you get your ribs shrunk?
Hmm I'd be really interested to see how you feel it's affected your overall athletic performance. I am aware of the procedure and was considering it but am delaying till next year as I've got some other surgeries in the interim, I'm not sure I need it, and I'm very concerned about long-term affects on my athleticism - I am a very active woman and would be devastated to lose that.
How many inches have you lost off your waist?
Are sweet tats one of the side effects of surgery?
I'm spending in a year dedicated to making my body into exactly what I want 😁
I understand the surgery was done on the lower ribs, but somehow even your upper ribcage looks smaller? Like maybe it's something about how our brain understands body proportions, but do you also think your chest looks overall smaller after surgery besides your waist?
Oh girl this is fantastic and you look amazing!! Thank you for sharing. I will add this to my list of options for sure
oh my god.
That's another surgery on the "need" list -,-
Hi! Looks great! If I may ask, where did you learn about potential risks?
You can ask about that kind of thing during consultations
Where are the incisions made for this procedure?
I made another post to show that, if you look around in these comments I linked it where a couple other people asked :)
Girl, I read a comment saying this was 8k? Who was the doctor if you dont mind sharing! ❤️
It's all in the text part of the post :)
My app was not showing the text and it was driving me insane. Then I realized it was everywhere so I updated it. Works now. The results are amazing. Thanks for sharing!
I had no idea this is possible! Thanks!
I may have to look into this. Your hips are alot wider than your ribcage now. It looks AMAZING hun.
Did it narrow the rib cage?
Today I learned rib repositioning is a thing. Cool!
This us is now on my bucket list.
Does Medicaid pay for it
Personally I don’t see a dif🥺 might just be me.. I asked my bf he said he didn’t see a dif aswell. Would love to see it at 7/6 months tho! Hope u have a speedy recovery ♥️
Omg! I didn't even know this was a thing. It looks fantastic, can I ask what it cost and what the health risks are??
Wow did that ever work, 👏 your body went into cute female post if I lived in the u.s. or was even allowed to I would of got this hands down by him.
Wow! It looks so natural! I don’t even know that type of surgery existed.☺️
Wtf how did I not know this existed!? I mean fuck wearing a corset for two months nonstop I’m cool off that, but also now I wanna look like a human hourglass so badly wtaf
Pics of the scars?
Has anyone had experience getting this done and then having serious pain the first week? I am 4 days post opp rob repositioning of the bottom 3 ribs on both sides and omg my left side hurts SO bad.
It also feels “crackly”…… is that anyone else’s experience? I did text my surgeon and am waiting to hear back. I don’t think I’ve hit any organs bc I would be having other issues like blood in my urine or unable to breathe/sickness….. so, I think the pain is either my actual ribs or a muscle spasm.
Please, lmk :)
Any update?
7 or so months in, able to go back to the gym and all how's your recovery and shape ?
It's hard to tell what kind of significance has happened because you did seem to have lost muscle mass as you stated.
In any case, your gym work has netted you a pretty feminine physique. So props on that.
I unfortunately many moons ago before it all, worked my abs i to a really masculine look and now muscle memory haunts me.
Soon I lost any kind of significant weight, and strength my core, the evil masculine abs are back.
I had my ribs broken in, but the only had me in a bandage kind of thing and not the corset you speak of. I always wondered how my stupid bandage was gon a do much. I'd see a corset letting the actual shape take place.
Ahhhh a never ending battle. I feel it's gonna be surgery life for life.
Doctor name?
Im both happy that this is a thing and also sad i will never afford it
Its hard to get a good sense for the change because the pictures are not alighted and it seems like the after is overall smaller.
Sorry you don't like my post 🤷🏼♀️
Can’t see contours with a black top.
The area that changed is completely below my sports bra, you're not missing anything
