Oh, congrats! I felt more like myself a week after. But didn’t really feel back to normal u til about 3 -4 weeks. Just relax and enjoy time to do nothing. Catch up on Netflix and Hulu

The 1st week is really the worst but it rapidly gets better from there. By week 4, the pain was mostly in the background except after sitting for long periods.

That initial surgically induced menopause is BRUTAL!!!

After Week 1: I felt a lot better physically when the packing came out

Week 2: It got a ton better emotionally around week two when I could start back on hormones

Week 3: Bored AF and dilation pain from sizing up

Week 4: I wanted to take on the world and send glitter and rainbows to everyone around me

Week 6: Can finally masturbate, so always late for work and everything :)

Month 2: Excited to finally get back into serious exercising

Month 3: Penetrative sex is a go and amazing. But painful dilation again (expected 4 weeks of graft scar constrictions)

Month 4: Emotional wreck (body figuring out no more androgens)

Month 5: Horny AF, like off the charts

Month 6: Not there yet :)

What would you say is the worst part of SRS that nobody really mentions? Congratulations btw!

The skin sloughing. No one mentions is but everyone deals with it. And it’s gross and it looks concerning. But it’s totally normal.

What’s sloughing, sorry?

You skin falls off as it takes it’s new shape. And as it’s healing. I think the skin is dying faster than it can heal so it essentially just falls off.

Ah I see! I didn’t know that was a thing, that’s good to know. It’s probably going to be a few years before I get SRS because of waiting lists but it’s always good to get as much information as possible in the meantime. Thank you!

Not everyone gets the skin sloughing off, actually.

Granulation tissue has been my worst part. It’s getting better, but after 9 months, I’m tired of it.

She uses a robot to help with depth and scaring. She also was amazingly nice and sweet. They’re also doing some great stuff with using the perineum in surgery as well.

That’s all relative. I don’t know if anyone who is unhappy with their results from her.

are you happy with the aesthetics? is the post op care manageable?

1
Thu Oct 10 19:26:57 2019 UTC

Extremely!!!! Yes, it’s a lot at first with dressing changes and blood. And learning your new anatomy. But at this point, it’s so easy. I had it down by like week 3.5.

that’s really great. i have a consultation with her next year. i’ve heard some people say i should get the electrolysis beforehand. to shorten my wait. could you explain where you were told to get it exactly? or should i message on mychart?

thanks for the ama. not many people share pictures online but it seems generally they are happy after surgery with her so that makes me feel a bit better

I haven’t met anyone unhappy with results from her. Yes! Start electrolysis ASAP! Don’t wait. I wish I didn’t wait. Just cause I have hair on my labia. Not bad and is easy to take care of. Just didn’t wanna have to do it post surgery. Get it on the entirety of your scrotum. And then down to your anus. With about an inch width. Then also around the base of the shaft of the penis.

2
Thu Oct 10 19:34:30 2019 UTC
(7 children)

thanks so much. last questions. an inch width around the shaft as well? or less.

and uh, how painful was that? i’ve had laser on my face but never electrolysis.

again, thank you so much for your time

1

An inch sounds good. Oh, and any hair on the actual penis as well.

Electrolysis sucks ass. See if you can get a prescription for emla from your doctor. Or buy some numbing creek used for tattoos online if you can’t get a script.

Of course! As me anything! Lol.

hey, a question directly from my mom. lol. sorry to keep blowing up your phone

how often do you need to go to new york/be in new york? i assume its 1 day for the consultation but it would be really helpful to know 1. how long you were in the hospital for the surgery itself and 2. how many times you need to go back to new york for a post op visit.

i’m not from new york so she wants to know how often she will have to take off work to be there/get me there and back.

I went 4 times prior to surgery including consult. Then 2 week stay after surgery. Then back in 6 weeks. Then 6 week after that.

I was in the hospital for 5 days after surgery. I’m not from their either.

oh wow 4 times before surgery was unexpected, i don’t even know what they would do during those visits. thanks for the answer

You could ask them to pair some of them together. But the info session is the best.

So obviously clothes fit a lot differently than they used to. What's the most surprising part of that?

I mean, you pretty much said it.

Okay one of my big motivations for transitioning is because I really like the idea of crossing my legs or moving around without anything down there. It blows my mind. I just wanted to know if you could tell me anything about that, seeing as you've actually done it.

I mean, it’s awesome. My work pants fit better. Leggings are great. I love crossing my legs.

How are you doing with the recovery?

Great. Most everything is “recovered” at this point. Lolz . But fine. I’m pretty much back to my normal self.

Great to hear! I saw the same team and recovered quickly as well. They do awesome work :)

I'm sick to death of dilations though, can't wait for the one-year drop to weekly haha

Yeah. I start work again tomorrow. So it’s gonna be interesting to see how that works out. Lol. I’m down to two. But dilations been fairly easy for me. Expect for my bed cause it’s so soft that I sink into it. But once I get the good position, I’m fine.

Was 12 weeks your choice or suggested to you by the surgeon?

2
Thu Oct 10 20:25:36 2019 UTC
(6 children)

12 weeks for what? I took 12 weeks off of work cause my job is very physical. But most people take 6-8 or 10 on the far side. I also took 12 cause I work at night sometimes and dilating would be hard at work if I was still on 3x a day.

12 weeks post surgery before returning to work is what I meant, yes. My date with BBL is in a couple months so it is nice to know a bit better what to expect.

Yup! Ask away! I requested 12 weeks and they obliged.

How mobile were you when you left the hospital through about 3-4 weeks later. Having to fly home at 3.5ish weeks is a bit concerning for me.

I could walk but walked slowly and with a waffle. Sitting wasn’t there easiest but manageable.

Congrats!! I'm getting mine done next Wednesday!

Have you been able to do any sort of active activities? If so, when were you able to start? How difficult have common day to day obstacles, like stairs and bending over to pick something up been?

1

Congrats!

Yes. Lol. I’ve been in the gym, riding bikes, running. Doing the works. Lifting weights. I started doing it at 8 weeks. But could do light stuff at 6. They were difficult at first. But after week 4, I was fine to do walking up stairs and stuff again. At this point, I’m back to normal. I’m running around wearing heels and being my idiot self again.

What kind of help did you need from others/your support person? My wife is having her surgery in a month so I'd like to know how to best help her with recovery.

I really needed people to cook and do minor stuff for me. Standing for long periods were hard. Make beds, change sheets. Grab blankets. Small tasks that require you to constantly get up and move around.

I’ve read that Nurse Kevin apparently conducts pre-surgery sessions to familiarize those scheduled for surgery with what to expect. Is this true, and did you attend one of these sessions? Ummm, I should have read a little further down the posts . . . Please explain what these are about. Can anyone attend, or are they only for those scheduled for surgery. I am in the Dr. RBBL queue for consult.

2
Wed Oct 16 08:48:25 2019 UTC

Yup. The sessions are only for people who have a scheduled date already. They are tailored specifically to their methods. They just over what you expect when having surgery with her and her team and what yo expect before, during and after surgery.
