I am hoping to find a surgeon for FFS who does not require a WPATH letter. I have been living as my correct gender for almost two years now and have been on hormones for 15 months. The requirements for the letter are so rigid and frustrating. I would really love to find a surgeon who does quality work without needing a letter.

As far as I'm aware if you are paying upfront a letter wouldn't be required. I think the only time letters are needed are for insurance purposes. I could be wrong though, but a few surgeons I had consultations with never mentioned letters until insurance was brought up.

In Dallas, Dr Raphael at the American Institute for plastic surgery does not require a letter. I'm going to have surgery there in the spring.

Deschamps braly doesn’t require a letter. You’ll need one if you want to file for insurance reimbursement though.

That said, there are lots of mental health professionals who will write a letter after one visit with zero gatekeeping. I suppose it may depend on where you live though.

Oh nice. I will look into that. I have heard good thing about Deschamps. I live on Arizona. If you know any of those mental health professionals I would love to know.

WPATH itself doesn’t require a letter for FFS, and I don’t think any surgeons do either. The only exception I’m aware of is Facial Team in Spain to avoid a local tax on cosmetic surgery, and it doesn’t have the full WPATH requirements.

For FFS which in my case was rhino, brow lift, brow bone reduction, and cheek fillers

Edit: i can’t speak to their accolades but my experience and results were very good imo.

WPATH doesn’t even know FFS exists.

The whole WPATH stuff is so redundant sometimes and restricting. I kinda get it if you're pre-transition or something but to require it for everyone is just insane and idiotic. The system needs an overhaul big time.

I'm attempting to revise my GCS and I'm being told that I still need three letters. It's fucking stupid. WHY?! I started transition 15 years ago... I've done HRT for over 10 years, (6 years legal, non-DIY) Really? I still need to prove this is what I want for myself and what I need? This is all in my medical file. Just fucking look. At this point, I shouldn't need some arbitrary approval to fix my own body. The surgeon's evaluation should be enough for the insurance company. You know, just like it is with cis people.

Anyway, it seems that if you need surgery and don't have letters you need to self pay. It looks like that's the only situation where knowing what you need for yourself is acceptable to the medical police.

This site has a list of providers that will provide a free letter if needed. I used it to get a second letter for my GCS and it was very easy.
