I don't know why this is still surprising? But then again I know how slippery surgeons are when answering questions about the potential of inconvenient problems, even with PI. In order to control the flow, the vaginal lining would need to respond with lubricant based on arousal. You want it to there when you need it. The problem is there's no mechanism in which the peritoneal tissue is tied to your brain and functions that way. I'm just guessing, but It would seem that the surgeon would need to find the balance in the amount of tissue lining so it doesn't produce too much or too little.

I'd be interested to know what they actually tell you upfront about this?

yeah I'm aware of the limitations of the tissue, was more asking in re: amount of discharge throughout the day

Yes, but I'm an idiot and didn't catch that until AFTER I posted. It's ok. I'm sure this won't ever happen again.

I had standard PI, but I've heard this from a number of girls. Some say they need to wear pads everyday.

Yeah I had PPT and am on month 7, I still have to wear pads every day. I try switching to liners every once in a while but there's too much for liners still. I'm hoping it will calm down eventually.

Does yours have a color? Mine is often a medium-dark yellow

yep! yellowy. part of me suspects dilating 3x a day with a bunch of lube prolly doesn't help either

Yeah I've wondered the exact same thing, if the frequent dilation is contributing (I'm on 2x day right now).

Which lube are you using? I'm thinking of switching to see if it helps.

slippery stuff is what I use. I'm a fan; it doesn't get super runny & stays on the dilator well like other water based guys I've used

now that's very interesting, because I also use slippery stuff. I am really starting to wonder if that's the cause now. I've got some new lube coming in the mail soon so I'll be able to test that theory.

Wow came here for answers to this - 6 months post op PI ... also using Slippery Stuff!

I wound up switching lubes but in the end it didn't seem to help. Instead, getting rid of a bit of granulation seemed to be the trick.

I'm just looking into PPT & other methods atm and since this post came up, any updates? How is it almost a year in?

It's doing pretty well. I'll be doing a full on 1 year update post in a week or two.

No real troubles other than occasional granulation

what is granulation in this case? What exactly does it mean in this context?

Is there still a lot of discharge?

And awesome! Thank you! I'll try to look for it.

Not a ton of discharge. There's a bit still, and I usually wear just a thin liner. I probably don't need to wear it anymore, I just use it to monitor in case any granulation wants to start bleeding

So do you think there will be a point where you don't have to anymore?

Still early in my research, will you always have to dilate?

I could probably ditch the liner right now, it's not doing much anymore.

You'll always need some kind of dilation. But after the first year or so you can probably get by with once or twice a week.

Its meant to be a thing temporarily, and should reduce. But remember Cis girls also get discharge!

May I ask what does your doctor say it could be from or does it calm down after while?

Now that it's been a few months, how is it going with this now? Any reviews? I'm trying to decide if PPT is something I'd be interested in.

I'd say it's calmed down a lot. Now if i have excess wetness at the end of the day, it's more because of lubricant from dilating. Pretty normal functionality overall tbh, & that's kinda what i was most concerned with wrt this whole surgery.

I went into PPT not really know what to expect--just that if I'd have had the option to have a source of lubrication, I'd prefer that, so i went with it. The fluid produced is somewhat different from other vaginas obv, but not in a way that i feel really matters. Plus, having peritoneal tissue helped my depth out a lot, cause I'd been on HRT for a while. Worth noting that the tissue produces fluid regardless of arousal obv, but i feel like most people researching the technique become aware of that.

How's the fluid different?

And is dilation still a thing/potentially the cause of the wetness?

What's the connection to depth & HRT time?

in my opinion, peritoneal fluid is thinner & smells different. i still have to dilate fairly frequently--my schedule hasn't really changed--but even so, I've noticed less discharge overall over the course of a day. as for depth & time on HRT, everyone's mileage is different but for me, being on for a while (like 7+ years) caused atrophy to tissue that became the vaginal canal.

Ohhhhhhh. I didn't understand that connection, thank you. And thanks for this whole explanation. Definitely nervous & am self conscious about having tabs open on my computer (safe to do so, just awkward)
