To answer some questions:

I went with Dr. Douglass at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. It was the penile inversion method. I had 4 sessions of electrolysis beforehand, and had already had an orchiectomy a year prior. The cost was nothing, because it was entirely covered by Medicaid. Was in the hospital for 5 days (with no visitors because of covid) but the nurses and doctors were all wonderful.

I had my first orgasm via magic wand around 4 weeks, and continue to orgasm that way regularly. I wear panty liners every day because of discharge, but it's gotten better with time. I was cleared for all activity around 7 weeks, except bike riding. I'm still getting my strength and endurance back, but I can do most things.

I've been dilating once a day for an hour, but am starting to break it up into twice for 30 minutes. It still isn't fun, but it's fine.

I love my pussy. It's beautiful, and feels right. With the physical healing, a lot of emotional healing has been happening, too.

Congratulations! And thank you for the clarification, I was thinking AZ. But the results look amazing.

Question on your hair removal, I thought hair removal for a year plus was recommended. Has that changed or is there a lot of extra emphasis on it?

Different surgeons have different requirements, so it really varies. I was told that they recommended hair removal for the main surgical site, but that nothing was required, because they will cauterize any remaining follicles in the operating room.

Get more than one consult, because one surgeon may say that MINIMUM you need to get 30 hours done (the surgeon who recommended this to me also conveniently had a very expensive hair removal service that her private office offered), and others will say do what you can, and they'll take care of the rest. So just remember that you need to always be advocating for yourself.

What’s dilating? :-) thanks for sharing!

Dilating is the required procedure where a trans woman uses medical dilators to keep shape and depth of the vagina.

This is very important within the first year or two, but with regular sexual activity it’s not as pressing. (I haven’t had the procedure done yet, so someone may know more exactly)

However it will always be needed for the rest of our lives. Worth it for a lot of us.

How many weeks after surgery did you feel like it wasn’t a bloody/scary thing? I’m almost 2 weeks post now

I think around 3 or 4 weeks it felt less scary to deal with, you're definitely approaching

That’s a fantastic result. How were they on insurance? I’m currently looking at Del Corral and McGinn but your surgeon seems very skilled and if they are better than McGinn on insurance it may be worth me investigating.

Wow amazing results! Would you mind sharing the surgeon? If it’s the Temple University I’m thinking of it would be really convenient since I live in Philly.

Very late answer but yes I met with Dr. Hamidian (who works with Dr. Douglass for vaginoplasty) and he said he's performed revisions on other surgeons' work

Just discovered this surgeon! I live right outside of Philly and this would be perfect! What was the process like up to getting the surgery? I mean like wait time until consultation; consultation ANd then wait time until surgery day? Thank you!! Looks amazing!!

Hi, I know I am not OP but I actually reached out to Temple shortly after OPs post. I recently had a consultation with Dexter Rose who is the Gender Affirming Care Coordinator at Temple. They were amazing and set me up with a consultation for the 25th of May with Dr.Douglass. If you want I can DM you the packet they gave me, and Dexter's contact info. To offer a little advice start electrolysis sooner rather than later, and start getting a second therapist letter. They have a psychiatrist who is a part of the gender-affirming care team who can write you a letter, but you still need to get a second one to meet WPATH requirments. Check out the GALOP project if you need help with that second letter.
