The fact you can remember a blog I haven’t logged into in almost a decade is astounding.

Thanks, I've not head of Dr Ettinger before.

Is that Russell E. Ettinger at UW Medicine?

Looks good! I’ve been trying to get in to see him but having a hard time getting through. Really happy to actually see a real result.

It was difficult to get in with his team but I’m certainly glad I did. He doesn’t share his portfolio for confidentiality but I trusted his work given his specialty in craniofacial plastic surgery.

Any tips for getting in? I have Medicare so I am pretty limited in choices and need to make this work.

If you can, get ahold of Harborview’s Burn and Plastics unit. That’s where he works from. My coordinator was Emily so if you can reach her, or really anyone in the burns and plastics department, they will be able to get you the information you need and/or plan a consult.

You look great imo. Could you talk about how is impacted you mentally, and socially? Do you feel better in the mirror? Are you treated differently? Etc.

I still have a lot of back and forth feelings honestly. Some days I feel like I look considerably different, other days I feel like I look exactly the same, although my goal was to not too completely different and I still wanted to look like myself because I’ve never been overwhelmingly dysphoric about my face. Just some aspects here and there I wanted fixed. I will say though, I do feel much better, especially regarding my profile because my profile looks much different. I can’t really say if Im treated any differently as passing has been relatively easy in my case because of how young I was when I started HRT (16, I am now 28). At the end of the day, I just feel more comfortable with how I look. I feel like I look physically now how I always felt I looked in my head.

Well, you motivated me to call them back. Looks like my referral had fallen through the cracks and I had to call my GP to fix it. I like your results and an grateful to see them; I’ve already successfully transitioned and want a visible change that still looks like me, and I feel like that’s what you got. Wish me luck getting in!

did you start blockers before starting HRT? i’m curious how much HRT alone feminized your face in all these years before you got FFS

Are you happy with your results?

Definitely. One of my biggest things was that I still wanted to look like myself, just tweaked in some spots which he understood and accomplished. The changes have been very subtle but noticeable. One of my only complaints is that the fat grafts didn’t hold very well but I was already aware of that possibility due to having very low body fat as it is and not being able to harvest much to begin with.

I love the subtlety and thats exactly what I'm hoping for for myself. Do you think your surgeon would've recommend type 3 forehead reconstruction if you hadn't made that request?

I ask because I think my forehead would "require" type 3, but I wonder if type 1 would still offer some feminization with less risk.

In my case, my frontal sinuses are aplastic, meaning I have no frontal sinuses at all which is pretty rare. Because of this they weren’t able to even consider type 3 because if they did, it would open directly into my brain cavity lol. Also because of that, I never really had much of a brow ridge to begin with so I was able to achieve the results I wanted via type 1. Unfortunately I can’t say for certain if it would achieve the results you want but also remember, it’s YOUR surgery and they can only do procedures that you approve.

She just didn’t like your rude framing that she didn’t need an expensive, painful surgery that she’s already had. That was unasked for, I wouldn’t have been as nice as she was in that circumstance.

Can I ask how long after your consult was your surgery date?

I know I can’t expect it to be the same but to get a rough idea. I just today got a call to finally get in to have a consult with him in early July after waiting over a year. I consulted with Tommy Liu but my insurance is about to expire and I will more than likely be back on state insurance.

Thank you!
